What Happened to Chandrayaan 2 Mission by ISRO | Chandrayaan 2 Mission and Lander Vikram

What happened to Chandrayaan 2 Mission by ISRO

The Lander Vikram of Chandrayaan-2 Mission by ISRO was about to touch the surface of Moon, but all the celebration and hopes turned to despair, as the lander Vikram lost contact with ISRO Earth station. Everything was going as planned but when the lander Vikram was just 2.1 kilometres above the surface of moon, it lost contact with the ISRO earth station.
Here is an account of what happened early Saturday morning-

Chandrayaan 2 Mission Video

What Happened to Lander Vikram of Chandrayaan 2 Mission (Timeline)

1.40 am: Lander Vikram started its descent on to the surface of moon. The First manoeuvre the Chandrayaan 2 performed was 'rough braking' to significantly reduce its speed.

1.50 am: Lander Vikram completed its rough braking phase and entered into a fine braking mode. The distance between lander Vikram and lunar surface was only 4 kilometres at this point.

1:50 am - 2:00 am: Updates from the ISRO Centre Bengaluru stopped coming and worried faces of ISRO scientists clearly showed that something has gone terribly wrong.

2:18 am - K. Shivan, the ISRO chief, confirmed that contact with Chandrayaan 2's Vikram Lander had been lost.
Vikram had performed its descent as it was supposed to, up until the moment it lost contact when it was 2.1 kilometres above the lunar surface. Data from the Descent was being analysed, Sivan said.

Was Chandrayaan 2 Mission a complete Failure?

Here it is important to note that Chandrayaan 2 Mission should not be considered a failed mission.
ISRO said- 90 to 95% of the Chandrayaan 2 Mission objectives have been accomplished and will continue to contribute to lunar science.

Pointing out that the orbiter has already been placed in its intended orbit around the moon, ISRO said, it shall enrich our understanding of the Moon's evolution and mapping of the minerals and water molecules in the polar regions, using its eight state-of-the-art scientific instruments.
"The orbiter camera is the highest resolution camera (0.3 metres) in any lunar mission so far and shall provide high resolution images, which will be immensely useful to the Global scientific community," it said.

Dark Energy is not the Fifth Force, Proved by an Experiment at Imperial College London - Science News

Dark energy theory proved wrong by the scientists at imperial College London. As we know that there are only four known forces that exist in nature, these 4 forces are-

1.Gravitational force
2.Electromagnetic force
3.Strong and
4.Weak Nuclear force

What is Dark Energy (Is it the Fifth Force)?
But according to some physicists, one more type of force is also there, which is the 'dark energy' that acts on the matter. Therefore it has been considered as the fifth force.
Actually dark energy is an unknown force that is responsible for the expansion of the universe at accelerating rate.

Dark Energy Video

But in a recent experiment conducted by the researchers at imperial college London and University of Nottingham, no evidences were found of this fifth force.
Actually before this experiment, it was thought that, in Mostly Matter free space, the repulsive forces because of the dark energy are more significant than the attractive forces of gravity.
Gravity is responsible for binding everything together in the universe. In a place having lots of matter, the attractive forces of gravity are much greater in comparison to the repulsive forces of dark energy.
But this simple experiment conducted by the scientists have raised questions on the repulsive force of dark energy.
Professor ED Copeland, from the Center for Astronomy & Particle Physics at the University of Nottingham, said: "This experiment, connecting atomic physics and cosmology, has allowed us to rule out a wide class of models that have been proposed to explain the nature of dark energy, and will enable us to constrain many more dark energy models.''
Now let's see how the experiment was conducted and what were its results !!!

Experiment to Prove - Dark Energy is not the Fifth Force

A metallic sphere of the size of a marble was placed in a vacuum chamber and then atoms were allowed to free-fall inside the chamber. It was observed that there was no change in the path of atoms. But according to the theory, the path of the atoms should have deviated slightly if there is a fifth force acting between the marble and atom.
This was a test with a very large weight compared to an incredibly small weight of a single atom. So In this experiment the fifth force should have been observed if it exists.
But after observing no deviation in the path of atoms, scientists concluded that there is no force acting between the marble and atom that can be called as the fifth force.
Professor ED Hinds, from the Department of Physics at Imperial college, said: “It is very exciting to be able to discover something about the evolution of the universe using a table-top experiment in a London basement.”
So friends, this simple experiment conducted at Imperial college London has compelled the physicists to think again on the repulsive force of Dark Energy.

What are Wormholes | How Wormholes Work and How Wormholes are Created (Wormhole Einstein Rosen Bridge)

This post explains- What are Wormholes (Einstein Rosen Bridge)? How Wormholes Work? How Wormholes are Created (Formed)? Do wormholes really exist? How wormholes can be used to travel faster than the speed of light and also for time travel? I will also discuss here, How do wormholes look like and how can we visualize Wormholes?
So let's first understand What are wormholes.

Wormholes Complete Video

What are Wormholes?

A Wormhole can be visualized as a tunnel having two ends at separate points in space-time. Wormholes actually are shortcuts  for very long journeys across the universe. They can be used to connect two separate points at different locations or different points in time or both. Wormholes  are based on a special solution of the Einstein field equations.
Wormholes are also known by other names like Einstein - Rosen Bridge or Einstein Rosen Wormhole. According to some scientists wormholes are simply a projection of the fourth dimension. To understand it think of it as, how a person living in a two dimensional space could experience only part of a three dimensional object.
Wormholes can be used to connect points separated by extremely large distances even billions of light years away or other universes and also at different points in time.
Now I will tell you how can we visualize a wormhole.

How to Visualize a Wormhole and How does a Wormhole Work

With the help of this simple experiment you will understand how does a wormhole look like and how does it function.
For this you need a sheet of paper. Draw two points at some distance on the paper. Now assume That this sheet of paper represents a plane in the space- time Continuum and these two points represent the distance that we want to travel.
You understand that the shortest path between the two points is the straight line joining these two points.
Now I will tell you how does a wormhole work. All you need to do is, just fold the paper in a way that these two points touch or come very close to each other. You can observe now that the distance between the two points in this case is either zero or is much smaller than the straight line path before folding the paper. So this is the basic principle of working of wormholes. In the same way wormholes can provide shortcuts for very long distance travel across the universe by creating a tunnel through the fabric of space-time.

What are the Risks and Problems associated with Travelling through wormholes

Wormholes are predicted by the theory of general relativity. Although wormholes can be used for travelling faster than the speed of light and also for time travel but there are some risks that are associated with the use of wormholes like-

1.Dangers of sudden collapse
2.Dangerous contact with exotic matter and
3.High radiation.

But travelling through wormholes is not an easy task.
There are two major problems-

1.Microscopic size of Wormholes and
2.Another problem is related to the stability of wormholes.

Actually it has been predicted that wormholes exist on microscopic levels, nearly 10^-33 (10 to the power -33) centimeters.
Another problem comes from stability. The predicted einstein-rosen wormholes may be useless for travel because they are extremely unstable so collapse too quickly.

Is there any solution of the problems of Wormholes

There is also a possibility that with the expansion of the universe some wormholes may have been stretched to larger sizes.
But according to scientists, it is possible to stabilize wormholes with the help of some very exotic type of matter. But scientists are uncertain about the availability of such type of exotic matter in the universe. But it is believed that if we could find this exotic matter somehow, then it would be possible to keep the Wormhole containing exotic matter open and unchanging for longer periods of time.
Stephen Hawking and many other physicists believe that wormholes are constantly popping in and out of existence at the quantum level.  But to use them for time travel, it is required to inflate them to human scales, as quantum levels are much smaller than atoms. But Because of incompatibility between general relativity and Quantum Mechanics various efforts by scientists have failed to  prove it practically.

Conclusion

So although wormholes seem to be the fastest technique to travel through spacetime as they can reduce the distances by billions of light years but using them for travelling through space and time appears to be very difficult at least in the near future. But we should never give up. Let's Hope, one day we would travel many times faster than the speed of light with the help of wormholes as distance does not matter much for wormholes.
So friends this was all about the fascinating world of wormholes.
