According to some futurists, humans will be able to upload their consciousness to computers in the near future. They say that humans will achieve digital immortality by uploading their Minds to computers.
This process is also known by various other names like - Whole Brain Emulation (WBE), Brain Upload, Mind Upload, Mind Copying or Mind Transfer.
So what this brain upload actually is -
It is the hypothetical futuristic process of scanning the mental state of a particular brain substrate and copying it to a computer. This mental state includes long term memory and “self”.
Then a simulation model of the brain's information processing could be run by the computer, such that it responds in essentially the same way as the original brain and experiences having a conscious mind.

Rothblatt introduced the concept of "mindclones"- that are the Digital versions of humans that can live forever.
She explains how the mind clones are created from a "mindfile", a sort of online repository of our personalities. This mindfile would be run on "mindware" a kind of software for consciousness.
Physicist Roger Penrose of the University of Oxford and others disagree with the interpretation of brain as a mere computer. According to Penrose, consciousness is a quantum mechanical phenomena arising from the fabric of the universe. So uploading the brain would have to involve quantum computers.
